How Poker Players Spend Their Money

In this week's edition of Poker Nation's blogs about poker in India, we have, How Poker Players Spend Their Money

Luxury Villas

One of the main things many pros do when they move ahead in their game is to rank up their residences. After a huge win of $817,781 at the 2008 WSOP, Phil Galfond bought and combined two apartments in New York for $3.2 million to make it a huge three-bedroom, four-bathroom condominium. Phil Ivey lives alone in a 6,727-square-foot, three-bedroom house presently worth $2 million.

Posh Cars

Winner of 14 WSOP cashes and 5 circuit cashes worth $401,509, Vanessa Rousso is a luxury car enthusiast. Among the Lady Maverick’s buying’s have been a 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo, one of only 5,000 ever manufactured and a 2012 Bentley Continental GT worth $189,900. Ivey owns a Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren costing $500,000 and a $400,000 Rolls Royce. Daniel Negreanu is one of those who have recently purchased a trailer to travel in with a microwave and fridge for between-event snacking.

Wanderlust

Aside from the yearly trip to Las Vegas for the WSOP or flying to Europe on the poker tour, many pros enjoy sightseeing and embark on international adventures. Cole South had visited over thirty countries on each continent other than Antarctica by the age of 25 and his most recent getaway was to Vietnam.

Having Fun

It’s common to see poker pros like Tiffany Michelle and Maria Ho doing another form of crushing at chic Las Vegas clubs late night. High-stakes pro David Peat states that his hobbies include “partying, dating and shooting pool.” Chris Ferguson claims that West Coast Swing at California clubs is one of his favourite pastimes. Phil Ivey likes spending time with celebs like Michael Phelps.

Wardrobe

You might think a poker pro’s wardrobe contains only hoodies, branded polo shirts and hats like the cowboy version made famous by poker legend Doyle Brunson or the black cap, courtesy of Phil Hellmuth. But outside of the poker tables, players can be clothes hounds just like everybody else. Liz Liu or the “Poker Diva,” is rumoured to have never worn the same outfit more than once!
